Day 4 (July 5th)

This morning, after I ran and Grady & Dad played some disc golf and we had breakfast, we said our farewells to the Brooks family (Thanks for your hospitality!) and got on the road heading west. Our first stop was in Tuscumbia, Alabama to the Helen Keller Birthplace which was pretty neat to see some stuff that you read about in elementary school (including the pump where she learned her first word, water. Then, we crossed into Mississippi to eat lunch at a nice Subway in the town of Iuka. Following, we went to Corinth, Mississippi to see the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center, which showcases the Battle of Corinth (a major Civil War battle & the bloodiest battle ever in the Western Hemisphere w/5600 soldiers buried in nearby Corinth National Cemetery) & is built on the sight of the battle. Then, we went to Memphis where we checked into the LaQuinta & ate a nice dinner at the locally famous Corky's Barbecue. This was followed by a trip to Mud Island River Park, which was closed, so we walked around the dirty Confederate & Jefferson Davis Parks. Later, we returned to the hotel to spot a Hawaii license plate & for Dad, Grady, Claire, and I to play putt-putt nearby. Thus ends a busy day!
